Reunion Notes

Friday, September 20

Where – White Horse Black Mountain – classmate Bob Hinkle’s (and wife Kim Hughes’) club in Black Mountain.
What – Barbecue catered by Okie Dokie’s.  Cash bar.
What Else – A relaxed evening featuring pictures from our past on the big screen, some music and stories performed by Bob, a jam session (bring YOUR instrument—Sharyn there’s a grand piano on the stage), and some stories by you or other classmates.  Becki Plemmons and Paul will tell the story of their secret high school marriage, for instance.  We’d love to hear your stories, too—the G rated ones.

Saturday, September 21

Asheville High, 10 a.m. – Tour the Alumni Center and the school (bring any memorabilia to donate).
Afternoon – Free.  Spend time with classmates, take a trolley tour of Asheville, drive around and remember where the “old” places were.
Evening – Dinner and program at Crowne Plaza.  Cash bar.  Includes a DJ with a playlist of music from 1960 to 1963 (send your special requests to Gail Shulimson, 828-299-3218).  Also, the raffle drawing, the memorial to our deceased classmates, and some trivia from the past (better brush up on those memories).

Sunday, September 22

Breakfast – Crowne Plaza will set out a special breakfast buffet for interested classmates.  Those who use it will pay Crowne Plaza individually.

Reunion Headquarters

Crowne Plaza – (the old Hilton across the Smoky Park Bridge and behind Westgate).  Check out www.ashevillecp.com for the features of this beautiful resort which include a nine-hole golf course, tennis, zipline, spa, gym, and indoor lap pool.
Hospitality Suite – Judy Bogle Morris and Gail Shulimson will stay upstairs in the suite and “woman” the downstairs.  Drop in to visit.  We’ll have munchies and sodas.  Bring your own spirits if you wish.

Hotel Reservations

Make them now!  They’re a good price ($119 per night for double, $134 for standard king, $154 for king suite), a convenient location, and our treasury has to pay for ones you don’t reserve/use.  All rooms have a balcony or patio, a fridge and DVD player.  Some microwaves are available free on request.  Pets (no limit) are allowed for $25 per night.  Spa and athletic facilities on site.  The rates are also good for one day before (September 19) and one day after (September 20) the reunion.

Raffle at the 50TH

Share your talent, or donate something else that’s special.  We know Michael Hughey has promised a piece of his calligraphy and Charlie Worley something from his photography.  Gladys Hampton McDaniel is making a cork wreath.  Do YOU have something to contribute?  Let Suzanne know what you’re donating.  It doesn’t have to be a craft.  It could be a gift card, a hotel night/weekend, tickets to an event or attraction, etc.  The money collected will go toward expenses for reunion and future class needs like newsletters and other mailings, web hosting, etc.  Contact Suzanne Pollitt Smith to let us know what you’re bringing to the 50th for the raffle.  You can bring your “offerings” to Reunion Central—the hospitality suite at Crowne Plaza—on our big weekend.
